Mobile Phone Back up 'Over The Air' |
Posted by Fox on July 31, 2007 at 11:45 AM
Backing up your Mobile Phone data is real easy with "Bubble". Bubble is a subscriber based service that allows you to backup and restore all your mobile phone contacts over the air, like making a phone call. No cables, no cradles, no problem. So you can bubble your phone anywhere, anytime.
Bubble is more adavanced than a straight forward data back up and restore service. It allows you to do a fully automated synchronisation between your mobile phone and your “Bubble”. This means during a synchronisation your phone will automatically work out what information has changed since your last sync and sends only the new changes to your bubble. Meanwhile, your bubble automatically works out if you have made any changes via the web site and downloads these to your phone.
Neat! See trustbubble.com

Feeling flush? How about a limited edition SMS text mirror?
For just $10,000 you can get your hands on a mirror that's able to receive SMS text messages sent from a mobile phone. The messages appear as luminous text, running on the mirrors’ surface when one gets close to the mirror. It's called The +336+ and is designed by Robert Stadler (of the French design group Radi Designers).

Harry Potter Mobile Game |
Posted by Fox on July 24, 2007 at 6:29 AM
At last, a decent Harry Potter mobile game... Based on the 5th Harry Potter movie 'Harry Potter and The Order of The Pheonix'... Harry's fifth year at Hogwarts is shaping up to be his most dangerous yet. Fearing that Hogwarts' venerable Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is lying about the return of Voldemort in order to undermine his power, Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge appoints a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher to keep watch over Dumbledore and the students.
But Professor Dolores Umbridge's ministry-approved course leaves the young wizards woefully unprepared, so Hermione, Ron and Harry form "Dumbledore's Army" with the goal of preparing themselves and other courageous young wizards for the extraordinary battle that looms against Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

Concert Tickets on your Mobile Phone |
Posted by Fox on July 24, 2007 at 5:46 AM
Buying concert tickets on your mobile phone. To be honest, I thought this was a waste of time when I first read it, you know... one of the "solutions to a non-existent problem".
But it turns out it has a couple of great features. First you can buy tickets to a concert for a friend and have it sent direct to their mobile phone, and second, if you lose your phone, you can have the ticket resent to a new mobile phone free of charge. Unlike losing a paper ticket, where you have to buy them again.
Ticket-Text.com naturally claim the tickets are cheaper, I dunno, but they don't have the post and packing fees that my usual ticket vendor charges me. Cool!

Bouncing Boobs for Mobile Phones, takes down mobile content server |
Posted by Fox on July 11, 2007 at 7:23 PM
So I just had a call from Tony Jarmey over at Steathnet, a UK based mobile content provider.
He told me The Register had posted an article regarding the humourous results of searching for "boobs" on stealthnet's content site. The result was not thousands of sales of said "boobs mobile animation", but a bashing of their server.
The up shot of the article is that, some internet browsers cause a "boobs" mexican wave effect when viewing the web page.
So what, we hear you saying - it's just another run-of the mill, albeit jubtastic, flag-based flash. Well, before changing channels in a huff, click here and watch what happens.
Getting the picture? As James explains: "Different browser load patterns lead to different effects. Most of the time Firefox does an almost Mexican wave. IE seems to load randomly, but a refresh synchronises all of them. Some load the top half and then the bottom half leading to an up-down-up-down juggle."
Well, I'm using Firefox, and a few page refreshes did indeed produce a Mexican-wave effect, and a strangely hypnotic group mamsout fiesta. So hypnotic in fact, that I wrote this story at 8am this morning and have only just managed to disengage myself from the bouncing boob samba. Must.. try... and... concentrate...
Just goes to show you that THERE IS such a thing as bad press.

Create your own Mobile Comics |
Posted by Fox on July 9, 2007 at 2:41 PM
Fancy yourself as a bit of an artist? RokComics have launched a brilliant Mobile Comic Creator that lets you create your own Mobile Comics, and if it's of a good enough standard, RokComics will share it with their users.
Mobile Comics are an MMS that you download to your cell phone or mobile phone. RokComics have comics featuring characters such as Garfield, Teenage Mutant Nija Turtles, but I recommend you check out of the other pro-comics available. Some interesting stuff to be found.
The Mobile Comics Creator is entirely web based, very intuitive and has an excellent video tour for beginners. I'm thinking I'll give it a go and post it here, but frankly I'm not very creative, and I'm certainly no 'artiste'.
If you get round to creating a Mobile Comic, that RokComics features on it's site, drop me a comment and I'll feature it on thumblounge.com

peekamo, a Mobile Social Network for the USA and Canada |
Posted by Fox on July 5, 2007 at 8:30 AM
Following my recent posts regarding Mobile Social Networks, I got an email about peekamo, a Mobile Social Network operating in the USA and Canada. It looks really cool, so I dropped them an email regarding their plans for the rest of the planet.
Al Sajo over at peekamo told me "In the next few weeks we will be releasing our international service to major countries such as India, Dubai, UK, Ireland, Australia, China, Hong Kong, South Africa".
"These are to name just a few. As the weeks progress we have planned to add 1 new country weekly or bi-weekly".
